The Diaspora Group: Creating Prosperity for Haitians

BOONSBORO, MD. The Diaspora Group, LLC, based in Maryland, is a new company founded by a group of Haitian-Americans for the purpose of investing in socially-responsible businesses in Haiti. TDG has interests in developing sustainable business ventures in partnership with the larger Haitian Diaspora and Friends of Haiti.

The company is launching initiatives in hospitality, transportation, social media, and various products to showcase Haitian arts and culture. TDG is betting that the company will attract like-minded Haitians in the Diaspora and Friends of Haiti to invest together for a better Haiti. By creating meaningful jobs, providing training, and great benefits to its employees, TDG hopes its ventures will help change the course of the country to become prosperous where people can enjoy a decent life.

"A primary objective of TDG is to create jobs in Haiti. We are investing for the long-term because we believe in the potential of private capital as an engine of sustainable development," said Dr. Marjorie Brennan, President of TDG.

The Haitian Diaspora, numbering around 3 million in the US, Canada, France and other countries around the world, represents tremendous opportunities for Haiti. Its combined intellectual and economic strengths offers the best chance to provide continued support and growth for the country. The Haitian diaspora send annual remittances of nearly $2 billion -equivalent to nearly 20 percent of the country's GDP. TDG plans to use this large pool of passionate and committed individuals to help fund and manage its projects, while developing capacity within Haiti itself.
